Energy

Untitled design (2).png

What is still being investigated

the capacity and staging of the initial and later development

the proportion and location of renewable generation

battery capacity and duration

gas generation technology and operating profile

The project is being designed with new generation capacity to meet its demand rather than relying on existing Darwin-Katherine grid capacity. The current concept combines renewable generation, battery storage and gas-fired generation. The exact capacity, mix and staging are still being designed

How the proposed system would work

Renewable generation would supply power when available. Batteries would provide rapid balancing and short-duration storage. Gas-fired generation would provide firm power when renewable output and stored energy are insufficient

Beetaloo Digital expects the project to fund the generation, storage, connections and other energy infrastructure required for its own demand

Potential benefit for the Territory system

The Darwin-Katherine electricity system is small and isolated, with limited existing capacity and major generation investment required over coming years. If the project adds substantial new generation and appropriate connection and commerical arrangements are agreed, it could strengthen system reliability, stability and resilience

It may also reduce pressure on future system costs by bringing private investment into new generation and infrastructure

connection arrangements and any interface with the Darwin-Katherine electricity system

emissions, noise, resilience and emergency arrangements
