About the project
Beetaloo Digital is an Australian digital infrastructure initiative being developed by Beetaloo Energy Australia to harness the Northern Territory’s energy resources and strategic location to support the next generation of large-scale data infrastructure.

The proposed precinct near Weddell, south of Darwin, is designed to integrate reliable, locally sourced Beetaloo gas with renewable energy to provide the secure, scalable power required by modern data centres and high-performance computing.

With access to approximately 185 hectares of land, Beetaloo Digital has the potential to accommodate significant data centre development over time. The project is being designed with a focus on efficient energy use, low-water cooling technologies and the ability to incorporate increasing levels of renewable energy as the precinct develops.
Beetaloo Digital brings together energy, land and digital infrastructure in one integrated development — creating a direct pathway from resource to compute.

The project has the potential to support new investment in the Northern Territory, strengthen Darwin’s role as a digital gateway to the Asia-Pacific region, and create new opportunities across energy, technology, construction and advanced digital industries.

Darwin is uniquely positioned at the intersection of energy, digital connectivity and the Asia-Pacific, providing a compelling location for the development of next-generation digital infrastructure.
Beetaloo Digital’s proposed precinct near Weddell, south of Darwin, combines access to land, energy and existing infrastructure with proximity to Darwin’s growing digital ecosystem.
Why Darwin & Weddell
Darwin’s location provides a natural gateway between Australia and major markets across the Asia-Pacific, supported by international subsea cable connectivity and expanding digital infrastructure.
Close to reliable energy
The Weddell location provides an opportunity to connect digital infrastructure with reliable, locally sourced Beetaloo gas, while integrating renewable energy as the precinct develops.
Room to scale
With access to approximately 185 hectares, the proposed precinct provides the space required to support staged development and potentially accommodate large-scale data centre infrastructure over time.
Established infrastructure corridor
Weddell is located within an established energy and infrastructure area near existing power, transmission and transport networks, creating opportunities for an integrated approach to future development.
Supporting the Territory's digital future
Beetaloo Digital has the potential to attract new technology investment, create skilled employment and help establish Darwin as an increasingly important Australian hub for data, AI and high-performance computing.
Strategically positioned
Project Location
A strategically located digital infrastructure precinct south of Darwin

Beetaloo Digital is proposed to be developed on approximately 185 hectares near Weddell, south of Darwin in the Northern Territory.

The location has been selected for its combination of scale, proximity to energy infrastructure, access to transport and utility corridors, and potential integration with renewable energy.

Its position within the greater Darwin region provides access to the infrastructure required to support staged development of a major digital precinct, while retaining sufficient land for future expansion.

Land and water
Thoughtful use of land. Designed to minimise water demand.
Beetaloo Digital is being planned with careful consideration of how the precinct uses both land and water.

The approximately 185-hectare Weddell site provides the space to accommodate data centre infrastructure, energy and supporting facilities through a staged development approach, allowing the precinct to evolve over time.

Responsible Development
Beetaloo Digital is committed to developing the proposed precinct in a responsible and considered way, with environmental, community and land-use considerations incorporated into project planning and design.

As the project progresses, detailed studies will help inform the design and management of key areas including land use, water requirements, biodiversity, drainage, traffic, noise and other potential environmental and community impacts.

The project will be developed in accordance with applicable Northern Territory and Commonwealth regulatory and environmental approval requirements, with ongoing engagement with government, Traditional Owners, the community and other stakeholders.

Where practical, the project will seek to minimise disturbance, use land and water efficiently, reduce environmental impacts and incorporate technologies that support more efficient infrastructure development and operation.
Feedback received through the consultation process will also help inform the project as planning and detailed design progress.

Our approach is simple: plan carefully, minimise impacts and develop infrastructure that is appropriate for the Territory.
Water
Reducing operational water demand is an important consideration in the design of Beetaloo Digital.

The project is exploring direct-to-chip, closed-loop cooling technology, which circulates cooling fluid through a closed system and can substantially reduce reliance on water-intensive evaporative cooling.

This approach is particularly relevant to the Northern Territory and supports the project's objective of developing efficient, fit-for-location digital infrastructure.
Land
The precinct is being designed to make efficient use of the available land while providing flexibility for future expansion.

Planning will consider the location of data centre buildings, energy infrastructure, access roads, utilities and supporting facilities, together with appropriate environmental and development requirements.
