Finn Road and the land process

Weddell-004.jpg

What the 12 month commitment means

Why the site is being investigated

current zoning and strategic land-use planning

distance from homes and options for buffers and screening

road access, heavy vehicle routes and road safety

flooding, drainage, waterways and ground conditions

The Northern Territory Government has provided Beetaloo Digital with a 12-month exclusive commitment over approximately 185 hectares at Weddell. This gives the company time to investigate whether the site and project are feasible and to pursue the necessary regulatory processes

The land remains Crown land. The commitment is not a sale, lease or development approval. It does not authorise construction, land clearing, water extraction or power generation

How the process occurred

Beetaloo Digital applied to the Northern Territory Government through its Direct Dealings Crown land process. The Government announced the 12-month exclusive commitment on 22 July 2026. The company is now undertaking feasibility work, community engagement and early technical investigations

What would have to happen next

If Beetaloo Digital decides to proceed, it would need to a complete a separate land tenure process with the Northern Territory Government

The assessment will test whether the site is suitable for staged industrial development. It will consider:

biodiversity, habitat and seasonal environmental values

bushfire, cyclone and emergency access

cultural heritage and sacred site requirements

construction and operational noise, lighting and visual change
